BLACK INK CREW NY SEASON 10 RECAP: HOUSTON, WE HAVE A PROBLEM

By Sidra Lackey

Black Ink Crew NY episode 2, season 10 starts off with Ted checking on Puma at his shop Art 2 Ink, to see how he's been doing since the tense meeting with Ceaser on the first episode. Puma is still going through it and tells Ted he doesn’t know how to feel about turning 40 soon. Both agree being an adult is hard. Ted mentions Ceaser booked a flight to Houston.

Tatti seems to be in charge unofficially at Black Ink Brooklyn with the crew (sans Rok and Krystal). Spyder has a celebrity client: the rapper Nems who is known for his 2021 song “Bing Bong.” During his tattoo session he suggests to the crew they should have a competition. Tatti is on board immediately and says the competition will be to see who is Black Ink Brooklyn's top earner. The prize she says, she will “wrap it.” But the crew thinks she says, “rap it” and are shocked she can rap. She says she meant, “wrap it” up but tells them her rap name is Misty. They joke that sounds like a stripper’s name and she says it can be, Ms. T also.

Puma and Quani are at their home and Puma admits he’s not excited to turn 40 and Quani tells him he doesn’t look 40 at least. Quani opens up herself and tells Puma she feels her biggest achievement is being married and having kids. She says she wants more independence and a job to make her feel like she’s achieving something. Puma tells her she doesn’t seem happy. Quani screams that she isn’t happy, she needs a “reset” and needs Puma to support her. Puma says he is trying to understand her and that he will support her.

At Black Ink Houston, Ceaser meets with owner Van, formerly of Black Ink Chicago. He said he’s there because he heard “rumors.”

Ceaser has a celebrity client, rapper Bun B, whose wife Queenie is there to get a tattoo from him. He tattoos on her neck a dragonfly (or butterfly) with a fitting crown on it. Ceaser also gets business advice from Bun B on how to mix with the city. Ceaser seems starstruck over meeting Bun B and even gets him to sign a poster of the rapper for him.

Back at Black Ink Brooklyn, it’s competition day. Tatti holds a “Tattoo-a-thon” to make the shop money and to make her “look good.” The artists in the competition are: Spyder, Alex, Young Bae, Bux and Tatti’s ex, Jemz.

In New Jersey, Puma and Quani have a family day with their two children. They take their son who has been recently diagnosed with being on the autism spectrum, therapeutic riding because it’s said to hold the attention span more for someone on the spectrum, than traditional therapy. Puma and Quani agree “it’s working” and are happy and proud when their son mounts the horse and goes riding (supervised of course). Puma says when he initially got his son’s diagnosis he was thinking the worst but he needs to stop overthinking and believes, “everything will be okay.”

At Black Ink Brooklyn, Spyder is the first artist to finish in the competition. Bux’s client comes late but finally shows up. In the end, Tatti declares, “everybody wins.” Young Bae swears she is the real winner. Off camera in an interview with Tatti a producer asks her who was the real winner. Tatti admits Jemz was the true winner and had the most sales.

In Houston, Ceaser and Van talk. Van admits “it’s been rough” and tells Ceaser about a family issue but that he’s been trying to keep his numbers up. Ceaser isn’t happy but at the same tries to understand him and points out he just had the same conversation with Ted and Puma. He tells Van he trusted him for “who you are” and saw the potential in him. Van promises he’s going to show him “what he can do.” Ceaser tells Van seriously that he’s not flying back to Houston to have another conversation and there needs to be more action, less talk from him. Ceaser says, “motherf**kers have to show me they’re worth keeping around.”

Meanwhile in Alex’s bedroom… Alex says since he’s newly single from his relationship with Donna, he’s going to “explore the streets” and show his “nasty side” on… OnlyFans. He says he is in the top 3% of earners and living his best life.

The last scene of episode 2 ends with Puma’s birthday party at a rock climbing gym. Everyone has fun climbing and there’s even a cake for Puma. Puma declares, “40 is the new 25.”

Black Ink Crew NY episode 3 sneak peek shows Spyder debuting a pop up clothing shop, Tatti tattooing someone and showing Young Bae who thinks she’s not ready, and Rok seemingly proposing to Krystal!
